Dirty Water Sound & Music was established on October 13th, 2008 in Boston's historic Charlestown neighborhood.  It's founders, Jared Mooney and Ryan Pedersen, were two (probably over-ambitious) recording engineers/musicians with way too much recording and music gear to keep in their respective homes.  Rather than paying to store all this stuff while not using it, they decided to open a recording studio.  After more than a year of looking for suitable locations, they found a home in the Charlestown Commerce Center that met their needs in terms of cost, size, and ability to do the extensive construction and soundproofing a studio requires.  That construction took a little more than a year for a guy with a full time job and a full-time student to complete*.

"Dirty" officially opened for business in mid-2009, and has steadily achieved a reputation among local musicians as the absolute best recording deal in town.  Similarly or better equipped than most of the studios in the Boston area, Dirty offers a unique production environment with a little something for everyone.  Recording-savvy hounds will enjoy a fully equipped high-end recording experience offering the best in analog and digital technology.  But we offer the kids on the other side of the glass plenty of toys too.  You'll find a tasty variety of vintage and modern drums, guitars, basses, amplifiers and keyboard instruments.

Of particular note is our newly rebuilt Mason and Hamlin Model A grand piano, which was originally built by hand right here in Boston in 1905.  Everyone who plays this piano raves about its playability and its dark, rich, responsive tone.  We have a real tube Hammond Organ with that famous percussion, chorus and vibrato, hooked up to a screaming beast of a Leslie 145.  Also, the Hohner Clavinet D6 (made famous by Stevie Wonder) and a 1969 Fender Rhodes like none you've ever seen.  Check the gear lists for details on everything.

*"Complete" is a relative term.  We're always working on improving something around here.
